I graduated from Michigan Tech with a major in Civil Engineering with a focus on Traffic. Out of school, I did some work doing material testing and geotechnical field work for SME. After breaking into traffic engineering work, I found myself at the Mannik Smith Group. There I worked on a number of traffic impact studies and learned to set up many MioVision cameras for traffic data collection. After developing my expertise in data collection, I went to RS Engineering to establish and lead their own data collection efforts. I continued TIS work, but also gained experience creating traffic management plans for maintenance of traffic (MOT) projects. Later, I developed an interest in a better camera system and using computer vision to increase accuracy and speed-up turnaround time. Trafficat was born soon after, with successful prototyping of the equipment and trialing software. I have since moved on to the IBI Group to develop ITS toll and smart-city systems and I continue my traffic data collection and engineering work here for clients as an independent contractor.
